Today I’m going to be doing mini reviews some books that are being released around this time of year. Firstly I will be reviewing Black and White by Nick Wilford which I was sent by the author for review, and secondly I will be reviewing The Shadow Cipher by Laura Ruby (identifiable as YORK which is the series name).
As a lot of you know, I don’t read a lot of contemporary novels. Often I find the real world boring or quite cliche so I prefer reading fantasy or sci-fi. However there are good contemporaries out there and I’m going to reviews. Some of these I read a while ago but hush let’s pretend I didn’t.
Ruin and Rising is the third book in Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha trilogy. I really wanted to read this series before I read her Six of Crows duology (which I know isn’t necessary) and once I started this series I flew through it.
We Own The Sky is an urban fantasy novel by Sara Crawford. I was sent this book by the author in exchange for an honest review and I really enjoyed it. This book sucked me in and I can’t even figure out why.
Siege and Storm is the second book in Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy. Check out my review of Shadow and Bone, the first book in the trilogy. I read both books in quick succession and now I am waiting for the third book in the trilogy to be returned to my library so I can read it.
NOTE: there will be spoilers for Shadow and Bone in this post
This is a topic I can really get behind as there are several benefits to reading older books. Firstly, they’re cheaper (sometimes) and your friend/library is more likely to have them. Secondly, you can binge the whole series all in one go. Thirdly more people have read them so it is easier to get a sense of whether they are good books.
Also, in honor of the topic, I am going to be using the original covers of each book in this post.
