Mini Reviews for Sci-Fi Sequels

This is my second mini review post in the past few weeks and there will probably be one more as I try to catch back up to having reviewed all the books I’ve read.

This post will cover the second two books in the Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner along with the conclusion to the Endgame trilogy by James Frey.

Beware that there will be spoilers in these segments for the previous books in the series.

Shadow and Bone Review

Today I’m going to be reviewing Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I had never read any books by Leigh Bardugo before this but I had some expectations as one of my friends holds the Six of Crows duology in very high regard. My expectations weren’t necessarily very high as that friend kept telling me that even if I didn’t like the Grisha trilogy I would love Six of Crows which set me up to believe I wouldn’t like this trilogy which didn’t turn out to be the case. Wow that was a mess of a sentence. Let’s get into the review.

Mini Reviews for Popular Books

I am at a loss for books to review because most of the books I have been reading recently are ones that have been school texts. There are also a few that I read and didn’t have strong feelings for, or just thought like I had nothing to add on. However a lot of these are popular stories this year or just in general so I thought I would talk about them a bit. Today is my thoughts on The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Caraval by Stephanie Garber.

Top Ten Reads of 2017 So Far

I know this was the top ten tuesday topic last week, but since they’re on hiatus right now I am going to do it this week instead. Note that these might not be books released this year, only ones I have read this year. And I haven’t read that many books so there hasn’t been much to choose from. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin is an alternate history novel with fantasy twists that considers what would have happened if the Nazis won WW2. Yael is a part of the resistance with a fantastical ability. This review will be spoiler free, and just a hint that I really recommend reading this book.

Top Ten Things That Will Make Me Instantly Want To Read A Book

There are a lot of things that people can say when describing a book that will make me HAVE to read that book. People who know me are able to use these buzz words to get me to read pretty much any book. It’s kind of a problem because sometimes that means I go into the book with vastly different expectations from what the book is actually about. It can also mean that I like the book far more than other people do because it has a theme or trope that I like. This is the top ten tuesday topic of the week (from The Broke and The Bookish) so read on to learn more what you can say to get me to read a book.

Windwitch Review

Windwitch by Susan Dennard is the sequel to Truthwitch (my review). This is a fantasy series, I read the first book a year ago and really enjoyed it. This review will probably contain spoilers for the first book in the series so make sure you’ve read it first.

The Other Slipper Review

The Other Slipper by Kenechi Odogu is a novel based off the tale of Cinderella but taking it in a different direction. This book is set in a fantasy world that is reminiscent of the worlds fairy tales are usually set in. I read this book as an ebook which went really well.

I was given a copy of this novel by the author for review, this does not in any way impact my opinion of the novel.
